Hmmn.

Right.
Graphics: Crisp, clean and attractive. I only gave a five as many of the graphics were used time and time again.

Style: The style of the piece was awesome. All the parts seemed to link seamlessly together. The only problem was, in my opinion, that the variety between the graphics was not that diverse and that there didn't seem to be a theme behind any of them. You mention your interpretaion of the song, but you didn't seem to show it through your graphics.

Nice song, good quality.

No violence.

Replay button and play button. What more's needed.

Not meant to be funny.

I gave you a six because, despite the obvious merits of this piece, it didn't seem to reflect your opinion or offer much complex animation. Aesthetically: very nice - it just didn't push my buttons.

3/5

Mogly responds:

Yeah I agree with you too I think. It was a bit of a test rather than trying to really say something so thats cool.

Cheers for the review, and check it out, this review-feedback is about 10 months late!!

Sweet.

Let's get right down to it, shall we?

Graphics: Truly amazing in some places. Not so good in others. I averaged this out as a seven, albeit, a high one.

Style: Despite the graphics varied from average to awesome, the quality of the animation was consistent throughout. It was all linked nicely together, pretty much seamlessly. Great work on that.

Sound: The song was great, it was synced well with the animation and fitted quite a few of them too. Excellent choice.

Not particularly funny, I doubt it was meant to be.

Overall you get an eight. However, this is purely on an aesthetic basis. Watching this, I felt inspired. There is some abso-fucking-lutely brilliant animation in this, well worth a watch. The eight I gave does not demonstrate the sheer majesty of some of the art and animation; nor the creativity.

Sorry I can't offer much by way of constructive criticism, but you don't need it anyway.

Excellent Job, this is a favourite.

It was mildly violent in places, nothing hardcore. Meh, who really cares.

You only had a play button; no replay button. You only get a five for this. A scene selection screen would have been nice.

LaserKarl responds:

Thanks for writing such a long review, really nice of you :)

Thank you!

"Nonsense" is the word.

I expected as much from the title. Anyways, here's what I think:

Graphics were...well...not very good, to be frank. You clearly had an idea, but it seems you didn't fulfil it. If you have a stationary bacnground, I'll always suggest using the line tool to make it.

Style wasn't terrible. Nice opening - made me expect more than what I got though. If you're doing sticks, animate on a higher fps - it was pretty jittery. Try 18, then move onto 24 (if you feel like it).

You had appropriate sound effects where ever they were needed. Got a bit repretitive though. Add music next time.

Violence...well, there wasn't much. I'll just give you a 3.

Humour: None here.

Overall, a 4. You're clearly geting to grips with fbf animation - it's a good start. However, it felt very random. You might've pulled this off better if the stickmen had been fighting ot interacting with each other in some way. What it seemed to be was you practising animation by making sticks to random things. Heck, that's great. I learnt to animate that way.
Try animating sticks doing normal things, then put a basic character design over them on a separate layer - that way you'll progress your animation.

Nice start but a long way to go.

Whitechair08 responds:

Wow, thanks for the honest critique. All the time spent watching and writing are appreciated. I agree with your crit 100% . Nonsense is the linch pin in this short. Your words and time are appreciated!

Oh gosh!

That was brilliant!
The graphics were overly simple (not bad though), but you are using sticks.

The style was mind-numbing. The way the stick moved, the stick's physics - amazing. Very smooth, very fucking smooth indeed.
Sound: Coral. 'Nough said.

No violence, so the 0 is self-explanatory.

Interactivity. You get full marks here. Not only a snazzy preloader, but a replay button AND links to various sites. Nice.

Humour: 7. This was an enjoyable romp. A simple idea superbly carried out. It made me giggle inwardly and raised a smile to my face.

Overall: 8. If you want a pleasant way to spend half-a-minute, watch this! Graphics whores: shit off. This is purely for those who appreciate fun and good animation.

The simplist ideas are the best, eh :D

Snubby responds:

yup, they sure are. If only I wasn't so lazy I could have made it longer and gotten a better score.

MUCH THANKS AMIGO!

Cool.

I think that the style of this whole piece was, for the most part, brilliant. Towards the end, you seemed to lose whatever inspiration you had (the goomba-like ninja didn't fit in with the theme at all really).
Graphics-wise, very nice. The use of colours was supervb throughout, nice use of gradiants and other such devices. I gave you an 8 for graphics because I'm sure you could do better, they were overly simplistic in times (but still very good).
The style was great (as mentioned earlier) but lessened towards the end (also mentioned earlier).
I think the song fitted the piece perfectly. Indeed, I'm glad that you had the song stand-alone with the animation - sound effects would have ruined it.
Interactivity: 10. You had a play button and a replay button. What else would I need?
You told us that there wasn't to be any humour found here, and you were right.

Overall, 9. This is a solid animation incorporating a lot of ideas (probably due to it being made over such a long time) but some parts felt rushed. Also, you used the flash 8 fileter s a bit too much - I know they're fun, but try not to use them so much - they made it lag a bit.

Well done, this is going in my favourites.

FT-Dee responds:

Best review I have ever got. Thanks.

Excellent.

But parts of it must've been rotoscoped - it was very well done.

Damn, wish I could fbf like that :D

5/5.

StephenRedmond responds:

Thanks, man, but none of it was rotoscoped. If you think about it, the most difficult bit was the freefalling, which I couldn't possibly have rotoscoped, so why would I trace the easier bits? :P

lucky you, my 110th review

Making lines move around the screen is old news, if u like fbf try making a simple char and then animating that doing something (fighting's always good). You seem to know the jist of fbf (some quite sylish parts) so it shouldn't be too hard for you to build on this.
More than lines next time please.

Death-Con responds:

Ok, thanks for the review *salute*
:P

not bad at all

there were some amazing graphics in this piece, definately. However, there were also some less than good ones.
I gave the style a 7 because some artists interpreted their lines in an original way, worth a 10 at least xD but, yet again, due to the varied skill levels of the artists, there were some less good interpretations - which left me a tad dissapointed.
But, we can't overlook the talent in this project, the variety of styles certainly makes this a watch!

one small note, the preloader said i had -8 seconds left of downloading....
:s

well done guys, 4/5.

CatTehBus responds:

thanks for the review!

holy shizaz

I watched 4.2 before watching this; and i must say - Bloody Well Done. Topz must've rotoscoped but my fucking god was that beautiful :D The Pikachu one was also brilliant, great backgrounds and characters. The mp3_lock one....that scared me a little...
I am in awe, sir. Gosh...

...

*In awe*

hehe, another 5 for you. Well Done again on this.

MACception responds:

So much luff dude...

We're all stoked you like what we do. Topz did rotoscope, but, eh, like you said, it looked fucking great. Yeah Mp3's one at the end was some serious fucking pain...

...

*Very grateful*

Pikachu with a sword? FIFEN

Of course, voting 5 purely on the basis of sword-wielding Pikachus would just be unfair. Ok, let's talk about the film to see why I should give this my 5.
1. Great graphics; the level of art was fairly consistent throughout. Very nice.
2. Song suited it perfectly!
3. The beginning with the reviews made me chuckle.
4. Pikachu and a sword.

Ok Ok, Pikachu most certainly did own; but so did the other animations. Some quite inventive ways of killing people with humour (numa numa fat dude).

NOW I vote 5.

MACception responds:

:D One of the most interesting reviews ever dude. Gotta say i like hearin' this good shit, and it keeps us dishing out more pain in future episodes. Check out AFD4 and AFD3 for more Pika-action.
